Our neighbor Clyde Hammond Montgomery, Jr. has passed away at age 83. Secret Woods neighbor Erin Gordon has shared a few of her warm memories about living next to the man who was a well known Jacksonville journalist at channels 4 and 12 for part of his career. She says his professional life also included time in the Marines and at JEA. Erin shares that one of his favorite stories was interviewing the Beatles (video included in post).
Erin Gordon’s post from the Secret Woods Facebook page:
My dear neighbor Clyde Montgomery has passed away.
For those who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing him, Clyde was a remarkable man. He loved his neighborhood, his backyard, his wife, Oniel, his sons, his country, and reading the news as a former journalist. Clyde served as a Marine for four years and worked as a journalist for Channels 4 and 12, as well as the public relations director for JEA.
One of his favorite stories was when he interviewed the Beatles!
Personally, I want to share that we always felt the luckiest to have the Montgomerys as neighbors. After a hurricane, Clyde came over and helped me tear down all my broken fence. Never complained that it was all over his yard. Not all neighbors would help a young mom like that. They always extended us grace, and we are grateful to have had them in our lives.
Oneil is doing okay. Her sons are supporting her with all the plans.
Thanks go to Erin for sharing a few of her memories with us. Clyde’s official obituary can be read on the Dignity Memorial website.
