The Secret Woods
January 12 board meeting was called to order by Board
President Sallie Wnuk at 6:44 pm in the conference room of the
YMCA on Belfort Road.
The
following board members attended: Bill Bortzfield, Carol Bozak,
Harold Humphries and Sallie Wnuk. Block captain
coordinator Gerda
Humphries also attended.
Sallie opened the
meeting by asking Bill to read the minutes from the December 8
meeting. The minutes were approved as read.
Sallie then asked Carol for
the treasurer's report. As of January 10, 2004 the
neighborhood had a balanced of $29,053.43.
Sallie then reported two families still owe dues
from 2003. Although plans were made at the last meeting to have two
board members personally visit with those families the visits did not take
place.
The board made new
arrangements to try to talk to the families personally. The families
have not responded to repeated letters asking for payment.
Once the personal visits have
taken place the board will decide whether to pursue placing liens against
the homes of the families who have not paid their annual dues.
Attention then
turned to the neighborhood audit. It is expected to be completed by the end
of January. Bill requested that an electronic copy
of the audit be included so the results could be posted on the Secret Woods
Website.
Sallie reported the covenant signs are up at the neighborhood's
two entrances. She said she would look into having secretwoods.com
added onto the signs, since the Web address didn't make it into
the original sign order. Harold said the pond signs will go up as
soon as the temperatures get a little warmer.
Byron then delivered a report on efforts to secure a bathroom cleaning
contract for the pool area. Jan-Pro Of Northeast Florida
still hasn't signed the contract and is now
hedging on the original price agreed upon. Byron agreed to continue to
negotiate with Jan-Pro while looking into other possible alternatives.
Byron reported Jan-Pro came in with the best bid. Others were
significantly higher.
Sallie then updated the board on efforts to find out who triggered a
neighorhood leak last month ( click
here for details).
Sallie contacted JEA about the leak. JEA said it did not cause the
leak but did admit Honeywell was in
the area. But Honeywell maintains it did not cause any damage. Bottom line:
neither organization will accept responsibility. So the neighborhood has
been forced to absorb the $153 repair bill.
In other news from the board meeting Sallie and Bill updated everyone on
a street lamp that was knocked over on Secret Woods Drive. According
to a neighbor a resident accidentally drove into the street lamp. JEA
came out and cut the rest of it down and hauled it away, placing an orange
cone in its place. Resident Bob Sams and Sallie have both been in
contact with JEA. The utility plans to install a new street lamp at no
cost to the neighborhood, although JEA did not commit to a specific
installation date.
Discussion then
turned to moving the board meeting nights to accommodate board member Horst
Pophal, who has a scheduling conflict for the next several months. Treasurer
Tom Bozak will also be unable to attend for several months because of a
conflicting work schedule. The board decided to keep the meeting on
Mondays after being unable to find an alternative night that was suitable to
everyone. After checking the bylaws
the board determined an interim representative could be appointed if
need be.
Attention then turned to new business. The board agreed to
get bids to resurface the pool area and the tennis
courts. The goal is to get both areas upgraded before
swim season arrives.
The next meeting
was scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2004. The meeting was adjourned at
7:44 p.m.
Submitted by Board Member Bill
Bortzfield on 1/14/04.
