The Secret Woods January 9, 2006 Board Meeting was called to order by Board President Sallie Wnuk at 6:32 p.m. at the Southpoint Baptist Church on Tiger Hole Road.
The following members attended: Bill Bortzfield, Wayne Williams, Pat Parrish, Mary Loving and Sallie Wnuk . Residents Byron Delong,
and John Loving also attended.
Sallie opened the meeting by asking Bill to read the November minutes. The minutes were approved as amended.
Pat then gave the treasurer's report. As of January 9, 2006 the neighborhood had a balance of $21,686.02.
Pat reported the $5,000 of neighborhood money has been set up into an
account to be put toward constructing a new fence at the front of the
neighborhood. Sallie said once the city issues the right of way permit another workday
would be scheduled to complete the volunteer hours required by a city grant
for $5,000.
Sallie then noted the neighborhood still needs a replacement for former board
member Jim Thompson.
She also spoke with Bill Champion. He has volunteered to update the resident directory.
Attention then turned to the block captains. Sallie reported that Bonnie
Cowling told her she was resigning as head of the block captains. Sallie
told the board she will approach several of the other block captains to see if they might be interested in taking over the lead position.
Under other old business Sallie said Resident Ed Nass has fixed the
leaking toilet in the men's room at the pool. The project was larger than
originally thought. The entire toilet had to be replaced. The cost of materials was $127.
John noted the new concrete chair at the pool
is broken, apparently the result of vandalism. The board decided to look at replacing it closer to pool season once a handyman is in place.
Mary researched hiring a handyman. She checked with the city, the Montreaux Condominiums, Secret Cove, Home Depot, and others for leads. She has several feelers out to
people that might be interested. Mary said that the head of Secret Cove's grounds committee reported
that the neighborhood on Belfort Road is also having more trouble getting
volunteers to take on projects than it had in the past.
Sallie reported some of the pool lights didn't seem to be working
correctly. She said she would call the electrician that originally installed the lights.
Attention then turned to plans for a neighborhood chili
cook-off being planned by resident Bill Champion. He would like to have the
cook-off in February. The board agreed to vote on the dollar amount to
fund a portion of the cook-off at the February meeting.
Bill gave the board a report on the Secret Woods
Web site. The busiest month for the site in 2005 was September. A
portion of the report is displayed below.
