The Secret Woods
February 13, 2006
Board Meeting was called to order by Board
President
Sallie Wnuk
at
6:32 p.m.
at The Grille restaurant on Bowden Road.
The
following members attended: Bill Bortzfield, Wayne Williams, Pat Parrish, Linda
Evans, Mary Loving and
Sallie Wnuk
. Residents Byron Delong, Bonnie Cowling and
John Loving also attended.
Sallie
relayed that the YMCA on Belfort Road can no longer host the board meetings on
Monday nights due to a parking crunch. But the Y could possibly still host
us on other nights.
She
then asked Bill to read the January minutes. The minutes were approved as
amended. The January minutes will be
updated to make clear that the account set up for the fence repair had a $5,000
deposit made from neighborhood funds and not city funds.
Pat
then gave the treasurer's report. As of
February 13, 2006
the neighborhood had a balance of $19,462.84.
Sallie
reported that Bill Champion is continuing work on a neighborhood directory
update.
Bonnie
reported she attempted to get the right away permit for the new fence planned at
the front of the neighborhood. She was told by city officials that a
survey must first be done because the markers can't be seen. A survey
would cost about $500. Bonnie plans to use a metal detector to try and
detect the markers to avoid the cost of a new survey.
The
Secret Woods Chili cook-off will be held February 25th from 4pm to 7pm..
Pat suggested putting a note on Web site asking someone to loan the
neighborhood an easy-up canopy for the cook-off.
Bonnie
said she was borrowing chairs and tables for the cook-off from her church.
Volunteers and trucks are needed to help with the set-up.
A sign-up sheet is at the mailbox.
One of the prizes secured is tickets to Alhambra Dinner Theater.
A flyer is also in the works. The
rain date for the cook-off is the next day.
The board agreed to reimburse the committee for costs associated with the
cook-off once the bill is submitted.
Sallie
then relayed that Debbie Williams has become
the new head of the block captains.
Sallie
also reported she has contacted the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office about
restarting the neighborhood watch. It will be discussed at the annual
meeting, which was tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 15.
Sallie told the board the lights at the pool have been fixed.
The electrician told her a ballast
had gone bad.
The repair cost was $300.
Citing
rising expenses and needed repairs to the pool the board unanimously voted to
raise the annual dues to $300. The board also agreed to rollover the
neighborhood's $13,000 CD for six more months.
Sallie
pointed out that two sections of fence around the pool have been replaced by
residents but those fences are not owned by the neighborhood.
The board did not see that as a concern.
Meeting
adjourned at
7:30pm
.
The
next meeting will be March 13 at
6:30pm
at The Grille restaurant on Bowden Road.
