SECRET WOODS HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION MONTHLY MEETING
JUNE 11, 2007
BOARD MEMBERS ATTENDING: Wayne Williams; Katherine Frazier, Mary Loving, Ken
Peterson, Gary Bassett, Jim Huttle, Dale Elzie
HOMEOWNERS ATTENDING: April Coleman, Byron Delong, John Sittig
CALL TO ORDER: 6:36 p.m.
MINUTES FROM APRIL, 2007: Read, approved, and accepted.
MINUTES/OVERVIEW/CORRECTION FROM ANNUAL MEETING MAY 14, 2007: Received into the records.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Read, approved, and accepted. Secretary/Treasurer will get a monthly breakdown of income and expenses.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
ASSOCIATION BUSINESS: It was brought to the attention of the Board that one homeowner has owned one dog that bit a resident and now owns another dog that has bitten a visitor. It has come to the attention of the Board that a homeowner has, at times, been running an outboard motor after 10:00p.m. It has come to the attention of the Board that a homeowner has a dog that barks so much such that other residents are being unduly disturbed. It has come to the attention of the Board that some homeowners are putting their garbage in on the street in front of their neighbor’s homes, are not
securing their garbage properly, with the result that some of it ends up in neighbors yards when the wind blows. It has come to the attention of the Board that there are some homeowners who are not cleaning up after their dogs. It has come the attention of the Board that some homeowners are letting their dogs be unsupervised while off leash. All of these issues are being addressed by the Board. Letters are being mailed to address these concerns and the appropriate governmental agencies are being contacted where
needed.
DUES: As of May 31, 2007, all but 12 homeowners had paid the annual dues.
As of June 11, 2007, all but four homeowners have paid the annual dues. All homeowners are reminded that there is a $50.00 late fee. Reminder letters have been mailed. If the check was mailed and
postmarked by 5/31/2007 there will be no late fee. There is no ten day grace period after May 31. If a
third letter is needed, these will be mailed and the matter will be turned over to the association attorney.
POND: The company in charge of caring for the pond does not recommend replacing the carp in the back pond because once carp reach a certain size,
they no longer eat the vegetation. The pond company will control vegetation growth by using the appropriate chemicals. It was
approved not to purchase replacement fish in the pond, but to transfer some fish from the other pond. Volunteers will complete this task. In this same pond, a bulkhead needs to be repaired and a letter will be sent to that homeowner. It has been brought to the attention of the Board that non-residents have been trespassing on neighborhood property and fishing in the pond. One homeowner observed several persons arriving in two trucks and they fished at the pond. He spoke to them about this matter and they were belligerent. A No Trespassing Sign is being purchased and installed. If you notice a similar situation, do not approach those persons, but call the police.
NEW BUSINESS:
Block Captains: John Sittig is our new captain of the block captains. The next event our block captains will be working on is a Neighborhood Garage Sale on Saturday, August 25, 2007. Details are forthcoming and put it on your calendar. Also, the block captains are in charge of our annual Chili Cook-Off every March and a theme party every October. Stay Tuned.
POOL: It has come to the attention of the Board that two juveniles males were observed throwing fecal material in the pool on June 11, 2007. A homeowner removed the fecal material. Once the identities of these juveniles are known and confirmed, the Board approved their being excluded from use of the pool for the remainder of the year and that their parents be charged for the cost of cleaning the pool. Crown Pool had to come and “super shock” the pool, which resulted in the pool being closed for 24 hours, reopening on June 12, 2007. A Parent or Guardian (14+ years old) must accompany children under the age of 12. No one under 18 years of age may swim alone. For details, Go to the Secret Woods home page, click on About Secret Woods, and learn more about the rules and policies for the pool and recreation area. Repair of the underwater light at the pool is in process. A homeowner, while driving home, observed two juvenile males “skinny dipping” at the pool a few evenings ago. Homeowners are asked to be monitor the neighborhood and report unacceptable behaviors.
BASKETBALL GOAL: The purchase of a new basketball goal at the parking lot of the swimming pool was approved. Estimates will be obtained and $500.00 was approved for the cost of purchase and installation.
TENNIS COURT SCREEN: The existing screen will be moved to the other side and estimates are being obtained to replace the existing screen.
ROTTEN WOOD AT POOL HOUSE: The board approved the repair of the pool
building with Hardy Board and approved $1000.00 for the cost of this project. A homeowner has volunteered his labor to complete this project.
OTHER: It was brought to the attention of the board that there is a covenant restriction to the types and number of pets that each homeowner may have. The Board will follow up on this matter. The tennis court lights repair is in process. There is a question about a fence which may need to be repaired. The Architectural Committee is addressing this. A Board member reported that a homeowner called to complain about a dumpster in the neighborhood which is parked in a driveway, stating that it had been there for a month and that boats and trailers weren‘t allowed to be parked in driveways. The Board observed that the dumpster has been there less than a
month, and that there is a difference between the temporary placement of a dumpster for repair and remodeling of a home and the parking of boats and trailers in
driveways. The Architectural committee had approved the work being done at the residence and the placement of the dumpster for the duration of the repair and remodeling.
MEETING ADJOURNED: 8:45 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dale A. Elzie
Secretary/Treasurer
