MINUTES OF SECRET WOODS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING - January
and February 2008 minutes combined
DATE: February 11, 2008
LOCATION: Publix Meeting Room
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Wayne Williams, Mary Loving, Katherine
Frazier, Ken Peterson, Jim Huttle and Gary Bassett.
HOMEOWNERS PRESENT: John Loving and Byron DeLong.
Meeting was called to order; minutes from January 14, 2008 were
read and accepted. The monthly treasurers’ report was also read and
accepted.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
*Covenant violations: Neighbors who had covenant violations were
contacted by board members. Requests were made to the neighbors that the
violations be rectified. Follow-up by board members will be made to insure
covenants are being upheld.
*No trespassing signs: Two “No Trespassing” signs that include the
city ordinance number have been purchased and will be posted near the large
pond, and by the front entrance. These signs are necessary to support our
liability insurance, and to give our neighborhood the legal requirements to
enforce trespassing charges if the need arises.
*Chili Cook-Off: Saturday, March 15, is the date selected for our
Third Annual Neighborhood Chili Cook-Off. The event will be held at the pool
area and parking lot. Block Captains will be contacted with further
information.
NEW BUSINESS:
*The Architectural Committee will now post on the bulletin board
when a request from a neighbor has been approved.
*New Member of Architectural Committee: Jim Huttle has graciously accepted
the board’s request to join the architectural committee.
*Date of Annual Meeting: Monday, May 5,2008 has been chosen as the date of
the Secret Woods Neighborhood Association Annual Meeting. Time and location
to be announced.
Next board meeting will be March 10, 2008.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Katherine Frazier
Vice President/Acting Secretary
DATE: January 14, 2008
LOCATION: Publix Meeting Room
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Wayne Williams, Mary Loving, Katherine
Frazier, Ken Peterson, Jim Huttle.
HOMEOWNERS PRESENT: John Loving, Byron DeLong, Jim Cowling, John
Sittig, Al and Sheila Marsch, Sharon Armstrong.
Meeting was called to order; minutes from December 10, 2007 were
read and accepted. The monthly treasurers’ report was also read and
accepted.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
*Pond malfunction: With the installation of the new pump in
the front pond the board had been advised that the electric pump box would
need replacing in the near future. When it malfunctioned last week the board
had the electric pump box replaced.
*No trespassing signs: To enforce “no trespassing”, signs must
include the city ordinance number. The board agreed to have two signs
posted; one at the back entrance to the neighborhood, and one at the front
pond.
The board agreed that fishing (catch and release) in our ponds
should be enjoyed by our neighborhood. These signs will be an attempt to
keep poachers from fishing in our ponds.
Luminaries and holiday lights: A very special thank you to Cheryl
Lemine for organizing the Luminary Evening. And a huge thank you to John
Sittig and all the block captains for their participation in distributing
the bags and candles. The evening was a huge success!
*Holiday decorations: Marianne Pophal, along with other neighbors,
toured the neighborhood on several evenings before Christmas and chose the
houses they felt best represented the decoration categories. A very special
thanks to all who participated!
Pool inspection: Our new pool inspector has been adamant about
posting new signs at the pool area regarding pool rules and water depth.
These signs will be purchased and installed.
Work day: The board recommended that our neighborhood work day to
paint the fence be canceled as it was determined it would be beneficial to
let the fence ‘weather’ naturally.
NEW BUSINESS:
*Liability insurance: Our liability insurance is non-renewable. The
board needs to reapply for our insurance.
*Check value on sprinkler system: The board was notified that our
automatic sprinkler system needed to be inspected by the city. The board
will notify the City of Jacksonville that our sprinkler system has a manual
check value and therefore no inspection is needed.
*Covenant violations: It was brought to the board’s attention that
several covenant violations needed to be addressed. A committee was chosen
to visit with neighbors in violation.
*Property stolen from unlocked cars: It was reported to the board
that several cars, all unlocked, were reported to have personal property
stolen from them. A reminder to our neighbors to please lock their cars!
*Gift baskets to new neighbors: Gift baskets with coffee mugs,
gourmet coffee, a seasonal plant, and a copy of the Secret Woods Covenants
have been delivered to our newest neighbors.
Chili Cook-Off: The date of Saturday, March 15, 2008 has been
selected for the neighborhood Chili Cook-Off. More details to follow.
Spring Neighborhood Garage Sale: A tentative suggested date of
Saturday,April 26, 2008 has been chosen for the spring neighborhood garage
sale. More details to follow.
New board meeting will be February 11, 2008.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:45pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Katherine Frazier
Vice President/Acting Secretary
